The two day meeting at Fort William First Nations saw communities meet to discuss environmental monitoring, pressure from industrial development and help inform the International Joint Commission’s Science Plan.
Communities located on the North Shore of Lake Superior and around Lake Nipigon met on November 26th and 27th, 2024 at Fort William First Nation to discuss common goals including co-management and the protection of their shared waters. Representatives from Biinjitiwaabik Zaaging Anishinaabek (Rocky Bay), Animbiigoo Zaagi’igan Anishinaabek (Lake Nipigon Ojibway), Bingwi Neyaashi Anishinaabek (Sand Point), Netmizaaggamig Nishnaabeg (Pic Mobert), Red Rock Indian Band, Whitesand First Nation, and Fort William First Nation attended as well as a contingent from the International Joint Commission and Lakehead University.
